RE: How does mfr of strings make a difference?
The biggest bump I've seen on a bow, going from dacron to a low stretch material, was 5 fps. I've heard of larger boosts in velocity, but I wonder if they went from shooting an overbuilt dacron string to one built more to match the bows poundage. Between the low stretch materials, you won't find much difference in velocity. Now, some bows like certain materials over others. I had a takedown recurve that just didn't get along with 8125 material. No matter what I did, it had a residual buzz in the riser that just drove me nuts. I switched string material to D75 and problem solved. So it never hurts totry with different materials. The biggest things I like about low stretch materials like 450+, 8125, D75 is what BC mentioned, durability. The low stretch materials are much more abrasion resistant. Plus, once broken in, the brace height pretty much stays the same. Dacron has a tendancy to keep stretching. Particularly on those hot, humid August afternoons.
