Default What did I do?

After years of procrastinating, I finally had a recurve made for me by a local bowyer!

I have not shot more than a dozen arrows from a recurve or longbow since I bought my first compound in 1976.

I am having so much fun with this thing, it should be illegal!

After years of shooting compounds, and getting mad if I miss something the size of a fifty cent piece at 40 yards, it sure is a blast to shoot my new recurve. If I hit a paper plate at 20 yards, I feel like Howard Hill!

If I don`t grow out of this phase, I am gonna have about a dozen compounds for sale!

The virus has taken hold, CONGRATS. I too was bitten by the bug several months ago. I am now compound free, having traded all my compound stuff for longbows and trad supplies There is no cure for the virus, the only relief is buy more bows If you like the bow you have, try a Chek Mate and you can have that virus also. LBR (Chad) can help with getting you infected , I mean connected with a Chek Mate. Contact Greg at G & M Archery (218) 224-3263 about trading in some compound stuff for trad stuff! Welcome!!!

Don't sell all your compounds. Keep your favorite one. Then you can always go back and shoot it some to remind yourself why you have so much more fun with the 'curve.

"The Sleeper has awakened!" Congratulations.

You're hooked now!! You would never think launching a shaft from a stick and string could be so addictive but it is. For me, shooting my longbow is very therapeutic as well. There is almost an undescribable feeling you get watching that fletching spin towards the target. Glad you're having fun with your bow.

I forgot how much fun this sport was supposed to be! I am shooting everyday again. And when I am not shooting, I am thinking about shooting.

mhogan, if I start stalking dandelions....I`m gonna commit myself!

I don`t know much about trad bows, but this is what I know about this one...
60" long
50lb. @ 28"
shooting a 500gr. arrow @ 177-182fps.
The guy who made it says it is made out of curly maple, and babinga?

Now, do I have to start making wooden arrows?
I might just shoot these 2216 shafts for a while.

CT, thank`s for the reply, but please don`t give me any more phone numbers! I am already looking at pics on this site, and thinking about another one!

Good bow wood.

I think you did great with the poundage, etc.

Can you say who made it?

mhogan, thanks for the link.

The guy who made it only sells 5 or 6 bows every year. He told me it is just a hobby for him. His name is Don Gearhart, from Verona, PA.
He makes recurves and longbows.

As I said earlier, I know next to nothing about this trad stuff, but one of my best buddies still holds state records for longbow and recurves, and he is begging this guy to make him one now. My buddy claims that my bow is very smooth, and does not stack.
I guess that is like a compound camming over real easy?

I will try to post a picture later.
