let me start by saying I ahve a very long draw length, longbows and recurves break over use at the fadeouts from being over drawn repeatedly, my brother's Colt from Pearson has stood the test of time, sure it has some stress cracks but they all get them.
this morning with a new snowfall and more coming, was a perfect day to be out hunting squirrels and grouse.
I hunted along the edges of the hemlocks and hardwoods, looking for grouse but keeping an eye peeled for greys. two barred owls flew out of the oaks and into the aspens and as I watched them soar and land I picked up a flicker of movement at the edge of the old log road.
A fisher...rolling along in that familiar fisher gate. I was happy to see him, having left the north country last year I was having a hard time living without loons and fisher, finding cows and farmers a bad trade for wild country.
I watched the fisher follow the road until he hit a deer trail, which he took and followed it until I lost sight of him.
Calling the day a good one I turned to hit the trail back and was amazed to see a coyote coming down the same path teh fisher had followed moments ago!
I hoped the hemlocks would break up my outline and coming to full draw I lip squeaked as best I could.
the coyote never stopped and simply swung off the road and came right at me, at what I called 34 yards he stopped and stared, I relaxed my fingers and WHAM! the bow exploded, the limb coming around and smashing me on the head.
you may find this hard to believe I lost track of the coyote at that point. No matter how often a bow blows up on me i am always surprised.
Wow! Whats your draw length shooting traditional? I've never heard of people blowing recurves or longbows up having to long of a draw length if the bow is the right set up for the person! I know allot of guys who have a very long draw length, maybe your draw length is enormous, I'm looking forward to what you say it is!
