Default Who's Taking deer with FLINT?

I have harvested a ton of deer with home made osage stick bows shooting off the knuckle with cedar wrapped in sinew and flint heads...The traditional phase ended in 2000 when I lost a 170 class. I went back to the compound...You may beat me up for this....I know....I know...

But lets talk flint. Tell me about your success....poke a hole in the vitals and the animal is yours....sticks and stones or a48 dollar carbon arrow...they all do the trick with shot placement!!..I realize the basics. Tell me your flint stories! Thanks!

Is this guy thinking about going back to the basics?...you may be right...which is why I ask the question...bring me back!

there is a muzzleloading forum down below a bit on the forum page...a few rocklock hunters are regular in there...

i do hunt with a rocklock...love it...only ever killed 2 groundhogs with it. one at 10yds and one at 45yds hit right where i wanted.

shoot a 50cal TC hawken with 90gr of 3fg goex or schuetzen and a patched ball...actually probably hunting monday and the next 2 weeks looking for a doe or 2 with it...

I saw this post and had to jump on it. I actually just scored on my first traditional kill on December 29th here in Michigan. I used my PSE longbow, cedar 30" with sinew and Obsidian knapped heads. Even though it was only a doe, I had a great feeling of success taking a deer the way it had been done for hundreds of years. I actually passed through!!!!! I shoot a 60# bow and hit her on a trot at 12 yds out of a evergreen ground blind. I have hunted for years with a longbow and these arrows with no success. Mostly because I do my serious buck hunting with my compound and only dust this baby off for late season doe hunts. Next season I think I may switch over completely given the rush I got using primitive equipment. Much more rewarding. I couldn't imaging if I had shot a 170" with my setup....Just thought I would share.

Always interested in it, but never have.

Do you knap your own heads?
