Find a used recurve thats 40-45lb# and 28"draw,you should be able to get one at a pawn shop or on ebay that way if you dont care for it you are not out much, also this lets you work on form witch is the very 1st thing you should work on,I practiced a year before I even thought about hunting then my shoulder went out and I had surgery so its nxt year for me.......
Once you get form down then start with shot placement, there are alot of good books and DVD's out there and the guys on here are awsome for helping out....

I'd get the longest recurve you can get because it is more forgiving than the short one.The poundage also should be in the 45-50 lbs range( because legally, in almost every state, it is required a minimum of 45 lbs for hunting big game)and get the best arm guard money can buy.If you never shot one before, believe me , you'll need one.The best advice is to use the SAME weight arrows for your practicing sessions.
DO NOT worry in the beginning about the target score !!! Forget that ! Just practice on your form as close in the beginning as 5 yards. You'll get it soon with practice. Also use the glove, not the tab, for your shooting. It is better for you.
All these hints worked for me.
I hope they'll work for you too. Good luck !

Ranger is right about the weight and bow. Find a used one. If you can pull 40 lbs easily I'd go with that weight and practice with it untill you are able to be consistant. Then you can move up in wieght. If 40 lbs is hard for you then pick a lower weight and work up. Don't think you have to pull 40 lbs to start out. If your over wieghted on your bow you develop bad habits that will plege you for a long time. And if you've never shot archery you may be supprized how heavy 40 lbs is. You use a set of muscles that you rarely use otherwise. Now if 40 lbs is easy to pull for you, you may want to move up later to a heavier wieght. Practice with the 40ish pould bow for a while and then step up to a 50 lbs etc.

If you need to you can sell your lighter bow when you go up in wieght. I have several in different ranges that I pull to work up to my hunting wieght (70lbs, and no you don't need that much) So I do not injure my shoulders.

BTW I also sent you a PM

Why is a glove better then a tab?

It realy comes down to preference. For me I like putting on a glove and having it there always when I need it. With a tab I always felt like I had to straighten it before grabbing the string. Gloves just seem more comfortable too. Plus you don't have to take the glove off to do other things.

Actually as far as that goes I prefer a glove that is closed in the front and back. As opposed to the ones that are just closed in the back.

It boils down to preference. Some people shoot without a glove or tab. But bare fingers hurts for me. Of course I'm shooting 70#.

Me myself and I didnt like the tab so I use a glove but everyone is differant......
Remember...FORM FORM FORM......Dont worry about were you hit the target untill you have good constint Form.
I practiced Form for a long time,I know I can draw, spot and release and hit lung and heart area at 20yrds but havnt gone past that.15yrds is my comfert zone, this spring if all goes well I will shoot out to 25 yrds to see how I feel about it.
