Check out ebay and find one in the 40 to 45 # range. You should have no problem finding one. Stay with a lower weight for practice. Starting out heavier usually leads to bad form and never being able to shoot well. When you improve and can group 4" at 15 and 20 yards, then move to a heavier weight.

I'd also try to find something used. If there are any big shoots in your area, I'd try to get to one. Usually there are some used bows around to try out before buying. See what you like. I'd also say to start in the smae area of 40-45 pounds at your draw (which will probably not be the same as a compound). If that doesn't work, I'd try to find a used one in a reputable forum. I never got one from e-bay, but have some from classified add in traditional forums.

I'd go the used route mainly because after a year or so you will be in a better position to know what you want. A used bow re-sale valueshould be about the same for you if you decide the bow you bought is not exactly right for you (chances are, that may happen).

I have a 52" Red Wing Hunter recurve,46#@28" in real good condition.I offered it to another kid on another website and if her parents won't let her have it--it's yours for free.I'll let you know if she doesn't want it
