Unless someone nearby had a big, big gun I wouldn't want to be in his shoes!

I don't think the guy with the bow was in any trouble at all. The bull was staring down the cameraman and wondering what kind of jelly he'd make. But yeah, I'd want someone handy with a big gun right close by.

Somebody was real close to being picked up in a bucket--or a sandwich bag. I've been trying to get the funds together for a water buffalo hunt in Oz for several years. Almost had it together at one time, until and accident (and doctor bills) took care of the money I'd saved. Still plan on it though. Anyway.....

One of the guides I talked to said they measure the buffalo hunters in buckets. I asked what he meant. He said he could look at a guy and tell if he was a 1-bucket hunter, or a 2-bucket hunter. I still didn't get it. He finally told me that they are guessing how many buckets it will take to pick up what's left if the hunter screws up--and he meant it.

Another guide, and experienced buff hunter I talked with told me there's not a rifle made that will put one of those monsters down in time to keep it from getting a hunter that is in bow range (20 yds or less). I've heard of them taking multiple arrows and rounds from "elephant guns" (.458, .500, etc.) before going down. By "multiple", I don't mean 2 or 3--in one account I was told about, it took at least 13 rounds to put one down--I forget how many arrows had already gone into it.

On the flip side, I've heard of some going down from one arrow--never know. I plan on taking an 85@30 longbow with arrows that are 800-1,000 grains when I go.

I know that was a Cape buffalo in the video, but everything I can find out says they are basically the same critter, just a little different head gear, and the water buffalo is a little bigger on average.

At any rate, the "pucker factor" had to be off the scale for everyone involved in that video! Bet both the cameraman and the hunter could have pinched a railroad spike in half with their butt-cheeks!

I just watched it, isn't that one of those Asian or Australian water buffalos andNOT the African Cape Buffalo?
The horn sweep is totally different than a Cape Buffalo?

For the last two weeks, I've been shooting my HH Longbow which is 70#'s at 28. I pretty much only shot my GP Recurve which is 58#'s at 30" leading up to Whitetail Season (I draw itjust over 28",about 28" with the HH). Just for kicks, I shot the GP this morning, wow what a difference, it felt like a toy bow (and I never noticed how loud it is - compared to the HH that is). Can't imagine shooting an 85# longbow. But I bet it'll kicks less then my HH.
