When I was 10, my bows were free. And they were as decent as I could make them. Did make a bow out of a small pecan tree once, only to find out that our neighbor had been rather fond of her tree. So be careful when it comes to chosing materials for your new bow.

If i was you i would start out with the compound first to get your feet wet and get the basic's all down for bow hunting. Post this same message in the bow hunting part of the forum and you should get good help there, just don't let them guys tell you that you need to spend mega bucks! You can get a good compound spending around 300.00 bucks or so, depends on what brand you choose.

I would have to respectfully disagree with you on that, Schultzy.

Ancient Spirits sells a beautiful youth Kadiak recurve or a youth longbow for $150.00. They are great bows that you will be able to use for a few years. If you are interested, speak with your parents and have one of them contact me through a Private Message. I'll be glad to help you as much as I can.

Each to his own on what he wants to shoot my freind! It was just a suggestion! So you can honestly tell me its easier for someone to start out with traditonal equiptment rather then an easy set up compound? I can tell you this much, my dad's been shooting long bow for30 years or so and he wouldn't let me start off with my recurve like i wanted. If anybody could of started out hunting with a recurve it should of been me. I was shooting little recurves damn near before i was able to talk but when it came right down to it dad told me were going to start you out with a compound first to deer hunt with and after you get a few with that you can switch if you want. So thats whatwe did, got my feet wet and got my confidence up by shooting 4 deer and 4 bear with the compound the first 4 years i hunted and then i switched over torecurves which i am still shooting now, 12 yearsold is when i started bow hunting and i'm now 33. Its alot easier getting someone started out using sites then it is shootingtraditional, this is coming from first hand expierence! I'm not a compound lover by any means, i think the compounds these days are hurting our sport because of the 80% let off and the good old release's these people use, i hate them things too! I'm a big pusher for us traditional guys but i beleive a person should start out with the basics first so he don't get a bad taste in his mouth using a traditional bow and just up and quit then!

Can you pull back a 40-45 lbs compound bow????????thats plenty power for deer with a compound some states have a 45# min on draw weight for hunting., check your state law.

i'm guessing but id bet you arent strong enuff to shoot a hunting weight recurve...by hunting wieght i mean at least 45#....there arent many 10 year olds that hunt deer with a bow...if you want to go traditional get one used withabout 25# pull weight

you can practice with it and get goodand when your old enuff to move up to a hunting wieght bowit will be a peice of cake.
