Default Have a Question

How does one become a guide when he doesnt own land. Do ranches hire out and whats the trick to finding out when they are looking? Does it pay enough to even consider doing besides the satifaction of doing what you love? I have always wanted to get involved in it but, wasnt raised around any major hunting ranches.

I have friends in Oregon, and Alaska that decided to do this....and I know a lot of fishing guides too.....i wouldn't recomend it myself.....It just ruined what those guys used to love so much by making a job out of it, andhaving to baby sit rookies all the time.....Think it over hard bro....Kirk

Default RE: Have a Question

There are a lot of guide schools out there. When I was in Colorado in 2004 for an elk hunt, the outfitter that I used also ran a guide school. I think it is actually acredited. Anyway besides having a regular guide, I also had a student go out. I believe the students were there foreight weeks before the hunting season started. Man, they were in good shape. They had to carry water and anything else the main guide wanted them to carry. Before the hunt, the outfitter asked if it was ok for the student to join us, and of course I said yes. Anyway, I believe that school ended at the end of bow season and the best students were hired for the riffle season.
