Default Need advice: Traditional or Compound

I just got into hunting, this seson is my first, and I want to get onto archery. I shot a friend's crossbow and wanted one, but as it turns out, they are not legal for me to use. I still want to try archery, but I don't know which bow would be better. Compounds look like they need lots of TLC and repeated maintenence, which i don't want to deal with. I have also heard compounds are faster and more accurate than traditionals. If so, how big of a difference is there? I guess I need to know if the compound is worth the trouble or if I should stick with a traditional. Thanks for the help.

Unless you are the type who can"™t leave well enough alone, compounds really don"™t take much effort to set up and keep shooting accurately. Beginning bowhunting is a challenge enough, so unless you have a great deal of time to dedicate to shooting and getting capable with your trad gear, you may want to start with a compound. It all depends on how much time you have to devote to things. Compounds are very accurate with not as much effort. Trad gear can be just as accurate, but you are going to need to practice your behind off. Good luck.

Trad is more challenging as Ry just said, but it is more satisfying when you make a kill, IMO.
Any dumb hunter can use a compound, but trad is an art.

It is all peferance. I like both actually. But, for hunting I am going to a recurve. I like to maintain the compounds and tinker with them so I still shoot them for Target and 3D. With practice you will become accurate enough to hunt with trad gear but you must know your limitations.I enjoy the practicing so it has always come easy to me. Good Luck.

That pretty well sealed it for me right there. It looks like I'll get the compound. Maybe I'll try traditional after I know what I'm doing. Thanks for the input.

No, I have not yet got mine ordered. But, for awhile I use friends that's what got me hooked on the sport. So, once I get enough money to get all of it that's what I'll be taking.

I really liked the simplicity of the recurves and longbows over the compounds. I hope to become proficient enough to bag some animals and maby a trophy! Which do you like to use the most BigCountry? Would you rather use your gardian or your Martin longbow (I think thats what you have if I remember correctly)?
