Default string on or string off

Do you all take off your strings after each session and why?

No, right now its hunting season and I go out almost everyday so I just leavemy longbowstrung. and during the off season I shoot every 2nd or 3rd day so I leave it strung also. The only time I unstring it is if it will be more than a week or so between shooting and even then its not ness. When it comes to a recurveIMO the more times you string and unstring the better chance you have of maybe twisting a limb, sure even whenusing a stringer there is still a slight chance of twisting.

On my longbows, yes I unstring it, on my recurves no. On my sons selfbows, most definite.

Yup.. What BobCo said. On longbows unstring them. I wouldn't want toleave a strung bow around the house anyway for safety purposes. Also, you have to consider if you are driving in a car or truck, in most states the bow must be unstrung. There is no difference... IMO,between a strung bow and a loaded gun. Just ask anyone who has ever had a bow limb slip on them while stringing or unstringing. I did once... only a 45# bow, the upper limb whacked me across my chest and shoulder, I was black and blue for several days. Heard of a gentlemen on antoher forum, that had a limb slip and he lost an eye!Be careful.

PS... I wouldn't want any non-archers around the house dry firing my longbow either.

John Schulz's brother Dan lost his eye while unstringing his bow. According to John, Dan used to make Howard actual work hard in competitions to beat him (they were both students of Howard).I believe it all happened at Howard's home.

i keep mine strung because i shoot every day and taking the string on and off seems to me can cause more problems than leaving it strung

I unstring my Recurve every time I get done shooting it; Because it'll take some curve off of it.

Well I was taught to Unstring my recurve after every shoot. I alsowas taught to string backwards, to keep curve in bow.

I unstring my selfbow after shooting, but not my longbow or recurve. Takes time for the string to settle back in, even with FF type materials.

Stringing a recurve backward can actually cause a limb to twist--not a good idea. My bows may stay strung for months at a time--hasn't bothered them yet. I do keep them out of reach though--don't want any accidents.
