I don't know of a new one in that price range I'd be comfortable recommending. Seems to be easier to get a good recurve fairly cheap vs. a good longbow--what I consider "good" anyway (good speed, low handshock, smooth draw, etc.).

problem from experiance going cheap with a longbow, is they are harder to learn to shoot and more kick to them. i strongly feel again from learning the hard way, it is better to buy a reasonable bow that is good, can pick up a howard hill new for 400.00, as well as a sunset hill bow. there are a few others.

I'd look to a used longbow for something in that price range. If you are shooting 28" or more draw, I wouldn't go anything less then about a 66" longbow. Also don't overbow yourself. Most people start at about 40-45#'s at their draw.

My Fiancee' and I have found the answer, "Black Rhino" Bows is the place to go. Samantha has been shooting their quality bows for two seasons now. She loved the first one so much, she wanted another as a back-up, even when I told her I would buy her a "Black Widow" she insisted on another Black Rhino. I paid just under $250.00 for the first one, and a little more exotic one a few months ago for a little over $265.00. They are not cheap knock offs, they are the real thing. I would shoot one too if they made them in draw weights of fifty five pounds or more. Samantha is shooting her bows at 41lbs and 44lbs.

You can go to their website, just type in Black Rhino in the search engine. They are beautiful to look at and shoot like a dream.Black Rhino Archery, specializes in lighter weight bows for men, and bows for women and children. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to pay four and five hundred or more for a custom made longbow.....Balderdash!!!!
