Well, I ain't a pro by any stretch of the imagination, but I think I can handle this one. I'm actually not sure where the term "Flemish" came from, but the string is made up of individual strands all twisted together. Most consist of two or three bundles, which are twisted and counter-twisted to form the loops. It works like the old Chinese finger traps we used to get at the fair when we were kids--the more you pull on it, the tighter it gets, although there is not a braid or knot in it. Finished product (with two colors anyway) looks kinda like a barber pole--the "Z-twist" compound string looks like an offshoot of a Flemish.
