Default Chek-Mate arrow speed?

For you guys who already have your Chek-Mate bows , have you ever shot them thru a chrono? I was wondering how fast some of the models shoot, like the Hunter and Hunter II and the Firebird recurves. Please include what weight your pulling and what kind of arrow your shooting. I'm just wondering what I can expect from my Firebird when I get my hands on it. Thanks guys!

Well, I can't give good numbers, mainly because I am not a real big believer in chronographs--the kind that most of us can afford (and you see at most shops) aren't the most accurate or reliable machines. There are a lot of other variables that come into play also, such as the archer, how well the bow fits the person shooting it, etc. I can give a couple of comparisons, if that will help. JRW did the shooting (he can give the details much better than I can), but basically he shot a Habu, a Black Widow, a Palmer, and a Hunter II "head to head". He was shooting approximately the same grains per lb on each bow to try and keep it an even playing ground. The results, as best I can recall, were: Habu was the slowest, but not by a lot, Palmer was the fastest--10 or 15 fps, I believe, the Hunter II and BW were pretty much neck-in-neck.

"The Bear" shot his Crusader against a fellows Adcock ACS at an indoor archery range, and they too shot close--I think the Crusader was a little faster, but not enough to cause a fuss.

With me, I know when a bow is fast/smooth/quiet, and I don't normally rely on a machine to confirm that. I do understand the curiosity though, and I have chonographed one of my Crusaders on a friends chrony (I have one myself, but have never used it). With arrows weighing a little over 600 grains, I was getting in the mid to high 180's; pulling [email protected] with 64" bow.

Sorry I am not more help.

62"Hunter. 43# @ 28", 458 grain gold tip, 28.5" draw = 170 fps. +/- 1 fps with a dozen shots. (Fast Enough) Dick

The "Firebird XL" or "wannabe" was shooting a 31" Beman 400 with 125gr tip, 30" draw at about 55#, shortish braceheight of around 7", with a dacron string (this was before the Dyna'97 enlightenment) and shot 195-197 fps through 8 arrows.

Haven't chrono'ed it with a Dyna string.

Cahd's right about what I shot. The Habu was only slowerst by a couple fsp...but MAN was it sweet to shoot. That Palmer was just a barn-burner though. Maybe I'll have to pick one up some day.

I don't have the exact specs, but a good friend of mine was getting (I beleive) in the mid-high 190's with his, shooting 2312's, 125 grain points, pulling around [email protected]. I do know he gets a lot of pass-throughs--one that only had the feathers still in the deer had taken out two ribs and the opposing side "elbow" on it's way out--125 grain Magnus 2-blade was on the bussiness end.

Jesse: One of my Falcons is 54# @ 28". I draw to 27". At my local shop, I was shooting a 500 grain POC arrow at just over 170fps. Can't vouch for the accuracy, may be high, may be low, might just be right on. I will say however that the buck I shot with it this year really didn't care all that much.

I'm sure you will like your Falcon...Have fun!!

yeah I can't wait for it to get here. I was shooting a Bear kodiak Magnum. I stress was....
The bottom limb has developed a pretty concerning crack by the bottom limb tip. I have stopped shooting it because of the sentimental value (it was my father's bow)so I am kinda stuck. I have become so interested in the traditional style that I look at my compound and just don't have the drive to pick it back up. I can't wait until my Falcon is here !!!!!!!!!!

I have both the 62" crusader 60# at 29" and a hunter 2 with 60# and 73# limbs both at 29". The Crusader will shoot a 31" 2216 at 178fps, and a 29.5" 2020 at 175fps. The hunter 2 with 600gr 2020 at 60lbs was 185fps and the 73# limbs shot a 680gr 2219 at 193fps. There really isn't a lot of performance difference between the crusader and the hunter 2. More that just the speed of the crusader is that it is one of the smoothest bows I have ever drawn, shoots extremely well and is dead quiet.
