can i hunt with this bow

i have a bear grizzly given to me from a friend, it is 58" in length
28"draw len (my draw is 29&quot and it's draw weight is 43#. trying to break into the "trad world" i don't know alot about the mechanics. my question is can i kill a whitetail with this bow? can anyone give me some sound advice

Is your draw 29" on the recurve or on a compound (you normally lose some draw length when you switch)If it is 29 with the recurve then you would be pulling around 46 pounds and that is plenty for deer if you tune your bow and arrows good.You need to check the bow thoroughly for any cracks or delamination also.If your draw is 29 on a compound it will probably be around 27 1/2" to 28" on the recurve.You will need to check the game laws for your state to make sure what the minimum poundage allowed is.Hope that helped some.Good Luck

My advice is that you first check with your regs and see what the minimum allowed bow weight for hunting is. If it qualifies as a hunting bow and if the bow is sound, then I say practice to get your mechanics down and get your accuracy to the point that when you release the arrow, you know exactly where it's going to hit. Practice, practice and practice until you are completely confident that you have killed the animal that you're just about ready to release the arrow on. At that point I'd say yes, you can kill a whitetail with that bow. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
