I'm curious myself. I noticed mine coming apart yesterday. Ask on the trad forum, I think LBR or one of the guys there could come up with an answer.

If what looks like broken strings is occurring where the loops are woven back on themselves at each end, it's probably the raw ends of the strands showing through where the maker ended the weave.

What wingbone said. The flemish twist strings have short strands of string material twisted into the ends of the string. to give a bigger diameter and stronger string at the ends, leaving the middle of the string thinner. Those pieces twisted in the ends stick out everywhere.

So is it a problem?

well you will see the string ends a few inches below the loops because they drop strands when they finishthe string loops....thats why the string should have a tapered look to itby the loops....this is normal....if you have broke strands in the actual string bundles down from the loop ends like in the middle of the string or in the loops themselvesthats not good and dont use that string

if you look close you can tell if its the end of a strand or a break(if what you are seeing is on the tapered section of the string...

i copied this from your thread in trad forum....the first part is the same as what wingbone said basically.

No. They are not broken, it is just the ends. I had similar questions when I started shooting my first one. It looks like the string is coming apart on you.

This is what mine is doing. It has about 1000 shots through it. What would cause this to happen? There are no sharp edges on the limb tip.

dont use that string tex!

itjust wore out and started to break.... friction is probably the culprit....wax your loops religiously and you should get more shots out of a string. take your string off and rub in alittle wax your loops everytime or everyother timeyou shoot...what material isthat string made out of you know?

id go over your limb tips/string gooves with some 1200 and work down to 2000 grit sand paper just to make sure theres no sharpies. also wou can put a little waxon your string groves and then burnish it into the wood with a brown paper bag or a dollar bill to seal the grain.
