Default compression fracture
several months ago I ordered a kit and built a very nice bamboo backed hickory core r/d bow from crows head, i was very happy with it. It was 68" tip to tip 62#@29"draw. I took it to Gander Mt in Fredricksburg Va., it was shooting 174 fps. Over the last month or so I shot about 500 arrows through it when I noticed a compression fracture about 2" below the bottom of the handle on the lower limb. after fooling around with it trying to remove the crack and tiller the bow again, I now have a nice 42# bamboo r/d bow for one of my childern. (some of the crack is still there). I ordered another kit and a few other items from crowshead again. what can i do / look for as I'm tillering the next bow. I thought I had a nicely flat belly of the bow, it bent evenly after tillering. I didnt smooth out the knot rings on bamboo, does the strength of the bamboo affect the hickory core if the core is not tillered perfect. Sorry for been so long winded, I dont want to mess it up again. If you can help me, thanks__________________

Sanding the nodes of the bamboo will not effect the hickory. Just sounds like you tillered it to a shorter draw length.Drawing it past the woods acceptable tolerances. It happens. There are A LOT of experienced bowyers onStickbows The Leatherwall and tradgang. Check out those sites ad introduce your self. They'll be glad to help.
