Default Release's?

I have alway's used a damascus glove since I picked up a bow 30 some years ago,The last couple of years I have been having trouble with pulling my bow back and holding it because of a injury I got 10 years ago why it took so long to show up I dont know but it's getting tuff
A guy at a sporting good's store told me to try a release I haven't bought one yet and dont know if it would even work well with a recurve I have a couple left hand bow's and can shoot as god left as I can right but kinda hate to just put up the right hander's any help would be appreciated thank's

Default RE: Release's?

PB,
I might suggest a Winn's FreeFlight release. I had an injury a while back and could'nt shoot otherwise. The Winn's release feels a lot like shooting with fingers and does'nt change your draw length any significant amount. It's a glove type release, and makes yor bow feel 10-15 lb lighter. Shooting a release sure beats not getting to shoot!

When arthritis started messing with me a few years ago, I went thru the same thing you're faced with. Tried several different releases and only found one that was something I could live with.

TrueFire has a couple of models that can be used as either a conventional release or as a relaxation release. In relaxation mode, you pull the trigger to draw and anchor, then release the trigger to shoot. For someone that's done most of their shooting with fingers, releasing the trigger has a lot more natural feel than pulling the trigger. One of those releases is a wrist strap model and the other is a glove like the Wynns.

I did find that I could comfortably draw and anchor an 80 pound longbow with a release when the pain in my hands wouldn't let me get a 50 pounder within 3" of my face. What I didn't like was the extra noise, hand shock and vibration my bows were giving me with the release. I also had to go to a lighter spined arrow.

I've been taking glucosamine and chondroitin for the past year and I'm back to the point where I can shoot stickbows up to 60 pounds with my God-given fingers.

Thank's for the input I bought a winn release and have been shooting with it,it's definetly a different way it will take some getting used to that's for sure. The release help's though I can let go with my hand and pull with my arm the way this release is designed but I canter my bow some and the release feel's weird when I do once again thank's

IF the Winn doesn't work try a Scott Mongoose. I've shot one of these with my compound for 10 years, never a failure and it's the only one I bought! Other releases I just couldn't get used to.

Release's with longbows and recurves have been around to the tune of the 1940's or earlier! Some of the old styles are sure interesting, called "clutches" not releases in there day.

I also know an bowhunter who uses one as he's having problems with tendonitis in his hands. Went to an old cherry t handle release he payed a few bucks for and wammo, he's now hunting and enjoying the sport again.
