Default How is your season going?

Well, "'tis the season to be jolly" and this spells the closure of our hunting seasons. Although withdrawal symptoms remain a concern , I have had a very satisfying time in the field with my 'Sader. My first season afield with these primitive tools. Spot-&-stalk and still-hunting was never as pleasurable with my compound. I was blessed to be able to spend quite a few days chasing deer and did they run! . Yes, there were many bumbled stalks, a careless step, a rushed pace but I was able to net a nice Mulie. I dabbled a little in a ground blind (natural brush) and harvested a big-bodied Whitetail doe....my first stickbow harvest. It all just came together, it looked good, felt good, sounded good and she did not go far!
I thought I would share my efforts and see how your season has been.
Mark

Not so good here in CT. Saw alot of turkeys, but only one deer. The time I didn't go out with my hunting buddy the deer were everywhere and he got a doe and buck in the area I scouted and had a stand. Go figure. Of course I didn't get my turkey tag for bow this fall. Didn't see many last year, just saw deer. Hope to get lucky in the late season which started today.

My season is going well. I killed a nice doe this fall with my
Chek Mate Falcon. I hunted with my bow during Ohio's shotgun
season and had a nice 8 point buck bed down 30 yards from my
stand but did not have a shot (too many tree limbs and rose
bushes), would have been an easy kill with my Remington 870.
However I don't think it would have been as satisfying as taking
the buck with my recurve.

I'm taking a week off from hunting to let the deer settle down
after the gun season. Plenty of deer that survived along with
the 8 point. I'd like to take that 8 point but I'll be more then
happy to take two more does. I plan to enjoy the rest of the
season and hope that I can run into a couple of latecomers.
Best of luck to the rest that are still hunting and congrats to
those that have already had a good season.

Bad year for my hunting memoirs as Uncle Sam called me to active duty back in March and he is keeping me at least till March of this year. Did I mention Uncle Sam wants to make it up to me so he may keep me here in Wash. D.C. for another undisclosed ammount of time so that I may enjoy all the town has to offer? Anyhow didn't get to do much hunting (like none) as I used my leave days to spend time with the wife and kids (very, very, happy to do so I might add). I have gotten some leads on new hunting grounds for next year. One such area produced a six point, ten point, and an impressive eleven point, all Michigan whitetailed corn fed and not another bowhunter on the farm as the family only gun hunts. Congratulations on a fine year and may you have many more. God bless.

A bust so far in terms of meat in the freezer but a wonderful season with my new found love of traditional tackle. It will all fall in place sooner or later the hunt is more fun than the kill. Good luck to all in the remainder of the season
