Default help with recurve

hello

Some one gave me this bow about 10 or 12 years ago and I put it up without ever shooting it. (no string ) I started working at a store that sells a few long & recurve bows and we started taking a few shots with them when we are not busy. I enjoy shooting them alot so I thought of this old bow i had . it is a Coronado made by howatt archery 60" 39 @28 ".Can anyone tell me any thing about this bow ? maybe suggest a string length, type,#of strands.

56" actual length b50 string.
try brace hght 7 1/2 to 8 inches.
Shelve is flat - either build it up or put on a simple bear rest.
This was a Damon Howatt production bow - good shooter and a decent wght to start at.

To add to what Steve said, The bow has a 39# pull at 28 " You need a string about 4" less than your AMO length. If you have a custom string made, 12-15 strands will be adequate. His advise about the shelf is worth heeding, Your arrows will fly better if they are launched from a single point on the shelf. If the shelf is radiused (arched), it'll be easier to do, if not, build it up as he said.

How do you properly build up the shelf?

A 12 strand string will work fine--B-500 or B-50. You can put a sliver of leather, a piece of matchstick or toothpick, etc. under the rug on the shelf to crown it for better arrow clearance. You can do the same to the strike plate if it's flat.

I'll have to look at my Browning Wasp to see if the shelf is already crowned or not.

most of them won't be dead flat, just for that reason..

and when you think about it, your string nock is probably going to end up 1/2' to 9/16" above center anyway...
