Default Bow string

I ahve a Martin X-200 @50#. It requires a 60 inch string. I have twisted the string to about 58 inches to allow for brace height. I was wondering if I could purchase a 59 inch string and put fewer twists in it. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm hoping you aren't using a string that measures 60" in actual length, because that is far too long and it will take way - WAY- too many twists to get the brace height high enough. If you've got the string twisted so tight that it kinks up when you unstring the bow, then you've got real troubles.

The X-200 uses a 60" AMO string, which means the actual string length would be closer to 56". Recurve strings actual lengths are usually 4" shorter than AMO length. Longbow strings are generally 3" shorter.

Don't know if I've helped you a single bit, but I did want to know if we were on the same page to start with.

By the way... Welcome to the party!

I am just going off what the package says. I will measure tomorrow and find out for sure. The reason I am asking this question is because I want to swith to a fast flight string and 59" is all I can find @ the local Gander Mountain.

Unless it's changed recently, I'm pretty sure the X-200 isn't built to accept anything but a dacron string.

Chad also made me a flemish twist string for my recurve. He does make a very good string.
