Default Somebody recommend a tougher glove?

My fingers are killing me![:-]

When I started shooting last year initially I was getting a little joint pain that scared me right away because it felt like nerve sensitivity.....which my fingers got used to and has since gone away but my sissy little finger tips still get tender after a shooting session. (Does this ever go away?)
I am shooting relatively heavy weight since I draw to about 29 1/4"-29.5"front of the riser on 50# recurves and a 55# longbow and the relatively thin Damascus glove I use simply isn't providing enough protection.

I've been cutting my shooting sessions short lately because its just been plain uncomfortable and I've been short shucking shots just to get them away.
The weight isn't a problem for my muscles, just the little piggies at the very ends.

I remember as a kid I had an old Bear Glove that if my memory serves me correctly was very stiff and thick???.......anyone still make such a creature?
I do like the way I can feelthe string slip away as I shoot with the thin glove but I know I'll shoot more if I'm not being such a sissy.
(My middle finger tip pad will actually get pretty swollen after a shooting session)

Anyone else have sensitive fingers and how do you combat it?

(Ishot finger tabs when I shot olympic style recurve competitively but would prefer a glove for hunting ).

I like the Super Glove from Alaska Bowhunting Supply. Cost almost twice as much as a Damascus, but will outlast it by at least that much. It has cordovan leather tip overlays which offer a lot of protection. Takes some time to break in--I soak mine inside and out in Montanna Pitch Blend (I imagine most any decent leather conditioner would work the same) to speed up the process.

Two others I can think of off the top of my head are American Leathers and Bateman gloves--both high quality, both a bit expensive, both offer several styles.

Thanks!

You may want to try something with inserts. Personally, the gloves that I use have them.A lot of people complain that they can not feel the string well with these types of gloves. - Not all that important to me.

Anyway, Bateman with inserts is my number one, followed by Howard Hill with inserts. Both are made with Cordovan leather.

If you get one, make sure if fits real tight at first, make sure you soak it in water and use it while wet for a few days. Follow up with sno-seal. Some people like montana pitch, but I find it sticky.

Anywhere I can check them out or order one online? To be honest I'd rather NOT feel than feel at this point so that sounds pretty good too.

I've tried most of the big name gloves, Damascus, Big Shot, Super Glover, etc...... The glove that I use is the Skookum... I love it.

Bateman can be found in 3 rivers (I think they're cheapest there). You'll have to call though. I don't know if it's on their site. Bateman also has their own site. The Howard Hill can be bought from Howard Hill Archery, all contact info can be gotten there. You can send them a trace and tell them you want it tight, and they'll fix you up.

Bob,
Just got off the phone with 3 Rivers, and this is the glove I ordered.......

http://www.3riversarchery.com/Product.asp?c=1&s=41&p=0&i=6510X

The other one you linked IS a Bateman glove but I was told that its out of stock as a discontinued item and they only have XL's left in stock.

My hands are above average (I'm 6'3") but not huge so I went with the size large American Leather HH style so I can be pretty sure it will be snug.

Thanks for all of your help guys, hopefully this new glove will keep my whining to a minimum.

Cool, let me know how you like that one. American Leathers makes quality stuff. I've used their big-shot in the past. Never tried that one though.

I went the other way ......... I shoot using a racquetteball glove and cut the thumb and pinky out - super thin, great feel for the string
