Default New Bow - New Year

I am new to longbows andI just bought a Mathews Heritage 50#. I took it to the range a few times and I am not used to the amount of handshock I am experiencing. It seems worse whenmy shoulder is out of alignment with my bow arm. I am also shooting arrowsfrom myrecurve so theymay not be spined properly.

Is the handshock just something I have to get used to? It seems todiminish after I've shot a few ends.

Could be a few things.

Did you find the sweet spot in the Brace Height? If not, I'd suggest starting at low setting and increase it maybe 4 twists at a time. Measure the best spot. Then do the opposite, and start at the max and see if you hit the same spot when untwisting the string. Just be careful not to take too many twists out.
Are you locking the elbow out? They elbow needs to absorb some of the shock. It also could be caused by improper grip. Or the arrow could be hitting the riser (incorrect nock position, or spine).

longbows do got some kick...compared to recurves...even when they are tuned up..Especially if they arent the newer recurve style limb'd bows..keep that in mind. They are funner to shoot tho. BobCo is on the right track....
usually just move the brace height up or down untill you find the most Quiet position without silencers then add silencers and experiment with the position of them as well(thats how i do it anyway)...hand shock is hard to judge when it could be poor form or a bad release or something like that. So i go by sound for the most part....

im no expert so dont take my advise as such....i just use trial and error until it seems right....the above seems to work for me...also maybee heavier arrows will do the trick?

***shoot in a empty concrete basement,Garage or something like that...instead of outside and it will be very easy to notice a slight difference in sound...i canbarely tell the difference when im outside but inside i can realy Zero in on Noise differences

Also does String material effect hand shock significantly???
Is Mathews heritagemade by Sky Bows???

also have a friend listen and watch your form or have your friend shoot and you listen and watch...this helps alot.

i have a shootin buddy and when we team up on practice sessions it really helps us both tremendously.

I must admit the the HH bows do have some kick, but that is subjective. But they sure do point aweful nice, are super quietandvery stable. sorry, just needed to stand up for my HH, which is one of my favorite bows.

Yes, string material will factor in. My favorite material is DF-97. But make sure your bow is capable for FF material.

Thanks for all the useful information. I will experiment with brace height - I didn'tthink of that.
I think a lot of the handshock comesresults frommy 'novice' form.

Accurategroups can be achieved - I watched an experienced archer shootmy bow and he shot very well(with bare fingers even). I was envious.
