Marc (aka Cujo, aka Pigdog, aka longhair hippie Canuck bowyer, aka...nevermind, can't post that one--lol) told me about something the other day, and I was wondering if any of you have tried it. They get a good bit of rain, and for rainy days he has some arrows that have one feather and two vanes. The feather is where the arrow passes the riser. Sounds like it would work good, but I haven't had a chance to try it. How about you?

Oddly enough, the day before yesterday I was sitting in my stand getting soaked to the... and as I watched my feathers get flatter and flatter I was thinking the same thing.
Might just have to try it. Of course then I might start shooting like Cuj... hehe
If Cujo shoots a bow as well as he makes them, I would say he is a deadly shooter. The only way I can see it working is if the feather is the cock feather/vane and the vanes are the hen feathers/vanes, and the cock feather is turned in towards the window. Otherwise, the vanes would make too much contact with the shelf/window.
I have tried it and would like to know how he fletched them so that the vane didn't hit the shelf/risor,the one's I had did and kick's the arrow a little,As far as the feather's getting wet and laying flat spray the fletching's with either hair spray or spray them lightly with rain seal made for canvas but it work's when the ole timer told me that I thought he was
...or what about using the inside shelf feather on a 4X 75X105 pattern?
I shoot 4" feathers in this pattern and have very little or no issues with feather clearance.
As long as the helical isn't out of hand, I think it might work. Anyone know where I can get shield vanes?
OK........if you bareshaft your bow.....and it shoots bareshafts well to say, 18 yards......why won't it shoot just fine with flat, wet feathers? I never worry about it. I just shoot them once a year with suede shoe waterproofing (wal-mart) and then iggy-nor them.

If you don't like the idea of an elevated rest I think it would
be worth the time to experiment. Only one real way to find out,
fletch up a couple of arrows and see if you like how they work.
I made the mistake once of shooting an arrow with no fletch and a broadhead attached- found it in the yard weeds of a house I had recently moved into. I have never seen an arrow dip and dive like that then hang a hard right to bury itself in the neighbours fence. It was fired at a target that was about 20yds away, ended up going about 40 in directions it never should have.
First, last, and only time I tried that experiment!
