I use to have one taht was a real sweet bow, but I stored it in the attic and you know the heat in South Florida, well it warped and the riser became unglued, and I ended junking it.

Back in the day, Herters had a reputation for being smooth shooting, accurate and consistent but a little light in the durability department. But then, they were inexpensive so the plan wasyou just shot the sap out of it until it broke and bought another.

I've seen a few around, at least two that were bought new back in the 70's. They both delaminated, but weren't cheap. I forget what the one cost, but it seems like the other was about $400 new. One thing I noticed on one of them is a sticker that said the bow got a string 6" shorter than the AMO bow length.

Herters was a great company from the the late 50sto theearly 80s, I believe. I have two recurves and still use them. I love it. I bought my second this year on ebay and it shoots very well. You should have a good bow. The only thing you might have to do is refinish it. Both my bows needed to be shot with laquire agian, which is not heard. I striped them and used spray laquir to refinish them. They came out great.

Here is a hog I shot recently with my 1978 Match hunter.

I took this guy last Sat. with that same 78 Match Hunter.

Thanks or the input.i got the bow today. It's not quite what i pictured but decent enough shape to use.your right about refinish.it has a couple scrapes that warrant refinishing. The metal parts need sanding and a coat of paint. The bow itself is verygood cond.no stress cracks and such.I'll have to find a 56' string.
Congrats on the hogs.Farmers frown on shooting their pigs up here.
