Default Do recurves really need more spine?

I shoot 30" 2016 Alum arrows from my 50# longbow. They seem to shoot well. And I would consider my longbow high performance with a strong reflex-deflex design. Its a savannah.

So I am getting my wife into the sport. She inherited her mothers 33# recurve. So I ran the numbers thru my Easton charts, and I can't believe it, but it says she can use the same arrows I use.

So started beatin on the charts. And basically, you have to have almost 18 more pounds draw on a longbow to match a recurve spine needs. Maybe I am reading the charts wrong and they assume perfect centershot with elevated rest. Does a recurve really need that much more?

Default RE: Do recurves really need more spine?

I learned to finally not to regard the Aluminum arrow Manufacturer's charts as Gospel. Whether it is because they are designing arrows for compounds or the arrow speed is different, I now trust my own judgement more than the charts.

When you consider that primitive peoples could be accurate without exact consistency in their arrow shafts, you might see what I'm getting out. When I first started traditional, I often bought warped or "second" wood arrows. Then I'd toss a few water jugs out in the field. You know what? Even screwy arrows will still hit their target. Good luck introducing the Missus to the sport.
