Default wood taper

I got some cedar arrows. And a Trucenter taper tool. How much should I cut? Should I cut until its a sharp point? or cut until the tip bottoms out in the field point? My field tips I got seem to hollow. Don't want to cut too much.
Thanks for any advise.

I think the Tru-Center has a stop built in? On the point end, you don't have to go until you get a sharp end--not even close. On the nock end, you go until you almost get a sharp end. The point taper should be an inch or so, maybe a little more. I'll try to rememeber to measure one of mine. Clean the inside of the points with acetone, ream them out with sandpaper, then clean again--you will be a lot less likely to pull them off in a target if you do that.

My trucenter has a pin to adjust how far. You can make itshort or as far as you want. I don't think I am using the wrong end as the points fit very tight.

Its over an inch of cut. I only have about 1/8" more until I hit the end of the inside of point. I know the hot glue will have some wieght to it. I guess as long as its consistent?

Yep--keep it consistent, and the closer you get it to fitting the point the better.

Called 3rivers, he said really don't want more than 3/4-1"

I figured I would want all the bearing surface possible for better glue hold.
