Folks, I saw what I believe was the biggest deer track in my life this evening. My question is can anyone give an educated guess on the size of a whitetail with a track that is 3-3 1/4" long?

I've been talking to a couple of guys "up north" tonight, and they said they have seen much larger tracks. I am wondering if there is a difference in the size of their feet between here (MS) and there? This is, to me, a HUGE track. I have a boer goat that weighs around 300#, and I don't believe his hoofs are that big--gonna' look tomorrow though! Honestly, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the track was "somebody has a calf running loose", but there is no doubt in my mind that it was indeed a deer track. Thank goodness we still have until the end of the month to hunt! Wish me luck!

If it offers any more hope for you, I recall when Mark Drury of Drury Outdoors killed what was then the largest whitetail ever arrowed on video. He established his setup based on one criterion: he found a lone, but huge, whitetail track.
I myself would have a hard time sitting a stand for much time based on one single track, but it sounds like the one you've found is good enough to generate some real excitement. Good luck to you!!
LBR-the track you describe is indeed a good one but not unusual where I live in no. MN,however the rule is with mammals, the farther north of the equator you get the bigger the mammals get ie.the shiras moose found in the western US-Canadian moose found in Minn. and Canada, the yukon moose found in no. Canada and the alaskan moose, some people argue that the Yukon and Alaskan are the same but the Alaskan (found further north) is larger. Cam Good luck on getting that deer-hope you give him a case of the ol' Crusader Flu.!
Sounds like a real buiser to me Chad. Good luck. I hear that Crusader influenza that's going around is a real killer for sure.

It's not the only tracks I have seen, but it's the biggest set. Lots of sign there, all sizes. Haven't seen any real big scrapes--hope this one wasn't just passing through.......

Chad,
My 10 pt I shot 18 years ago (in Ontario)dressed out at 218 lbs with a hoof length of just over 4 inches.
I think this one you found belongs to a very nice size deer & I personally would not be ashamed to even sit a stand to even get a look at what it looks like.
Who knows, if you spend the rest of the season getting to know what this guy is doing, then at the start of next season he will be even bigger (hopefully) & you will have an idea of the pattern he is using.
