Default Another Newbie Question

After all me years with a compound I have decided to go Traditional with a recurve. I have read many many of the posts here and read a few books, but one question I have not been able to find the answer to is Stringing and unstringing your Recurve. Do you unstring your recurve after each use? Or if you are shooting it regularly, can you leave it strung for long periods of time? and if so how long is too long? Recommendations.

I was told by the bowyer of my bow that it was ok to leave it strung as long as it's being shot regularly. I would call the bowyer or manufacturer and ask them.

Well, with today's recurves, you could probably leave it strong for a long time and it wouldn't weaken, but I figure why not be safe than sorry? It takes just a few seconds to put it on or take it off so I just take it off all the time.

I leave the bow I shoot everyday strung and the restI unstring. Most of the damage to bow happens in the stringing and un-stringing of a bow..[]

I'd unstring an older bow, and always unstring a selfbow. On anewer bow, the only negative I can think of would be if you had a string failure, or if a mouse decided it liked the taste of your string wax (heard of that happening once). If possible, ask the bowyer what he recommends.

Thanks Folks. I would ask the bowyer, but I decided since I was just starting out that I was not ready to commit to a Custom made bow and some of the manufactured ones were showing up on E-bay at reasonable prices, but I ended up taking a chance on a older Ben Pearson 60" Collegiate 40lbs @ 28 ". Figuring this was a good weight to start and see how I like it. I knew it was a gamble but I got a really good deal ( I think ) Limbs appear straight. Other than some wear on the shelf and some minor scratches, there are no real nicks, cracks or splitting. Overall appears to be in excellent shape. I ordered arrows and am waiting for them. As soon as they get here. I hope to start shooting. Thanks again, I think for starters I will string and unstring a while to get the hang of it, and if all goes well. I will be out shopping for a newer bow later this summer, late fall.
