Default 40lb recurve for wife?

I know every one is different but I was thinking of buying a 40lb recurve for my wife. She has shot a recurve before but I don't know the poundage. Maybe a 30lb would be better, but I like her to have the option to hunt with it. Any opinions?

If at all possible, get a few bows in her hands and see what she's comfortable with. Some ladies can handle heavier weights, some can't (same as men). If she's not comfortable with the draw weight, then she won't enjoy it as much, she won't shoot it as much, she won't progress as fast as she could, and she is more likely to give it up all-together.

depending on draw length the pundage of a bow varries. If i remember orrectly 40 lb draw is at 30 inch draw. So if her draw isnt 30 she wont get the 40 lbs anyways. If her draw is 30+ you might want to go 30 lbs of draw. But as chad said, use what is more comfortablefor her she will get more enjoyment out of it

The industry standad has the draw weight marked at a 28" draw, but there's a few "over the counter" bows that vary, and many custom bows have the poundage marked at the draw length ordered. That is something to keep in mind though--a lot of folks don't draw a full 28".
