Shrewshooter; That's a great looking bear.We have spent 4 weeks hunting bears now and we haven't got a look a nothing like that one.We have shot 3 bears in 4 weekends but the largest one around 190 lbs. That one you have there should go in the very high 200's or a little better(they are one tough critter to geuse the size of).I am with you pic#2 is the shot i would want.Good luck and keep us posted.Bill

Mike,

That is a bigun'! I would love to see one that size in the wild in Randloph County. I wouldn't take a shot, but I would love to look.

I hope you get a shot and are able to harvest him!

Bill

This may be a silly question, but do you guys eat the bear after you kill it? If so, how does bear meat rate relative deer, elk, and moose?

Shrewshooter,

Hope you arrow that nice bear. Best of luck in your hunting
season.

Muddler,

I have a co worker that hunts bear and he described the taste
of bear meat as having a sweet pork taste.

Man--looks like a dang nice bear! Good luck!

I had my first taste of bear meat recently, and it was great. It was fixed like roast in gravy--very good and very tender. Didn't taste at all like deer to me--closer to beef, but a bit different. I've heard guys say that they didn't like it at all--my guess is the way it is cooked has a lot to do with it, and probably the bear's diet as well. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to get a meal of bear meat!
