Default Twisted limb?

I have and old Ben Pearson re curve. The bottom limb is twisted pretty bad. It still shoots good.

Is that limb going to give it up some day?
Is their anything I can do about it? (Besides a new bow)

I'm just getting in to this trad. thing and I really don't want to spend a bunch of money on it. I have to much into my other bows already!

Default RE: Twisted limb?

You can try what we call 'bumping' the twisted limb. String the bow and twist the bad limb back past straight, then turn it loose. See if it's better. Keep at it until the twist is gone.

If you can't get rid of the twist that way, try running hot tap water over the limb for a few minutes to warm it up, then twist it back past straight and hold it there until the limb cools. Then turn loose and see if the twist is gone. Keep at it until it's straight.

If neither of those work, a bowyer might be able to shave down one edge of the limb and cut the nock in one side deeper to straighten it out. But that's something that should only be done by someone who knows what they're doing.and, unfortunately, it might cost more than the bow is worth.

I have an old recurve that twists if you leave it strung......un string it for a week or so and see if it comes out.The bumping, as previously mentioned helps too. As long as the string isn't jumping off, I'd shoot it. Good luck

I bumped it at noon today.I thenshot it a dozen times or so. It seems to be staying pretty good. I'll keep an eye on it!!

I also ran it under hot water then let it cool a while holding it a little past center. It seems to be working!

Thanks again!!!
