Default interested in traditional archery (few questions)

Archery started a couple of weeks ago so I want to get a bow and hunt before the end of the month.( JUST KIDDING) but I do want to get into traditonal archery I sold my compound and gear to get into muzzle loader which I really enjoybut my goal is to hunt and be confident in an ethical shot placement with traditional gear in 2yrs. So my question is where does someone get started with compound I was pulling 67lbs comfortably and what type longbow or recurve and whats the difference? Also what are the recommended arrows and broadheads? I don't want to spend a fourtune any help or would be appreciated thanks.

All I can say is goto some archery shops & clubs and see if you can try someones bow, Try as many as you can...you could try ebay, but you should know something about a bow you may get from there. Then you need arrows that match your bow, Ask around after you get a bow, you know your draw weight, draw length then someone can help with the right spine arrows. I was shooting every other day for a year before I made my first kill with my Shrew Long Bow ( DOE, 9-10-05). Good Luck & Welcome to the world of stickbows

My advice:

Biggest mistake I've made in the past is being overbowed. I can tell ya right now, drop 20-25 pounds off whatever you shoot with your compound...and thats the weight you should get to start out witha trad bow. Don't worry about being a "sissy".....Trad bows are a different animal...you have to be totally and entirely comfortable with your bow weight so you can achieve a proper draw length and shooting form. With a compound you can cheat because of the letoff...you cannot do so with a trad bow, and you will quickly develop target panic and throw your trad bow in the woodpile if you do not start light

Been there, done that...

twice....

Hi snowman and welcome. If you are coming from the compound world, you may want to start with a recurve. I'd also recommend starting with about 45-50 pound pull at your draw. Remember that your draw will likely decrease about 1.5-2" when moving to traditional. Most traditional bows are made for a 28" draw. So if you deviate too much from this, then you may have to go the custom route. checkmate (talk to LBR) can make a custom at a very resonable price. For arrows, I'd recommend the aluminum route. Only keep in mind that the easton shart is on the stiff side.
