Default Browning Serpentine's a flop?

OK,
I'm looking for some information...

I read on another forum (I'm not a member of such but found it while surfing the other night) that the Serpentine was obviously a huge failure for Browning. However, one bowhunter told me he used to hunt with the Serpentine and he had great success with them and they punched a massive hole in the deer and flew like darts.

So I'm curious - has anyone ever had any similar experience as well?

And, just how would an archer sharpen these broadheads?

I am an avid Browning collector and would love to be able to hunt with my broadheads. However, I feel that the magnificent whitetail deserves to be taken with quick, humane kills and I don't want to risk losing or wounding a deer if these broadheads won't perform.

???

Appreciate any info available...

I'm not sure I remember the Serpentine... Is that one of the cookie-cutter type heads? If so, it's not something I'd recommend taking to the woods. Those types of heads rarely gave dependable penetration.

Like all stories you hear about broadheads, you've got to look at what the individual is shooting. Some guys are using low energy setups and that puts some very common sense limitations on their broadhead selection. Others are using bows that churn out enough energy to drive a toilet plunger thru a Cadillac, so they could get impressive results from practically any broadhead, no matter how lousy the design might be.

I'm not sure there were any bows around back when the Serpentine's were available that churned out that much energy - to be honest with you!

Even if there weren't compounds, there darn sure were very heavy draw weights. Even I got into that stuff, shooting bows up to 120 pounds. [:-] That's why I don't have any functional shoulders today.[&:] That was what you did though. If you wanted a lot more energy you went to a lot higher draw weight.
