Default Shooting help

Guys........

I have a problem.... I am shooting pretty well with my hybrid bow out to 25 yards... however - the confidence to hunt is way too low. The reason is is my first few shots are never consistant... and the first shot counts.... I know I need to shoot it more, but was looking for ideas and suggestions...... I used to shoot bare bow (20 years ago) excellant, and using a compound has come close to ruining my instinctive ability I guess.....

Take a few warmup shots before you head out. Get those first few bad shots of the day out of the way so you'll only have good shots left to hunt with.

eightwgt, don't get discouraged! You don't have to shoot out to 25 yards. Just limit yourself to what you feel confortable with. What you don't want to do is force yourself toshoot accuratelyout to a predetermined range. It is something that will come with time by itself. It you try to force it, it could make things worse. In my experience, I have deer every year within 10 yards. Just maybe not the one that I want. You may have to reflect on the quality of deer that you are willing to take. Quality standards, may have to be changed. But that OK in my book.

Although I was kinda joking earlier, I was also serious. Some of us have to warm up those muscles and stuff before our form will settle in and the arrows will straighten out and fly right.

Something I do might help. I'll draw to anchor, concentrate on a spot and hold for a count of 10 before letting down. Doing about 10 reps of that gets the arms and back warmed up and gets my concentration grooved before I ever release that first arrow.
