Default Ground blinds

I want to try hunting from natural ground blinds on public land. I don't want to hang a stand on public land because it's always easier to find a fallen tree to hide behind, andthe possiblity of my stand getting stolen. Is scent reallymore of a problem, or about the same. Has anyone ever tried it from the ground

Although I aquired a couple of climbers last year to "try the other side" I normally hunt from the ground in either a natural or manmade blind . Contrary to popular belief deer can and do look up since the invention of the tree stand , at least they do in my area . With regard to scent dispersal I think an enclosed tent style blind is better than ducking behind a deadfall or rock , but ground hunting in general demands more attention to scent control . I use a cover scent on my blinds like earth or acorn in addition to personal scent control . I've had deer graze just feet away from me on more than one occasion since the blind hides my movement .

I think you have to pay attention to scent, regardless if you are on the ground or 30 feet up a tree. It does seem to be more important if you are on the ground though, especially if you don't have a way to hide it. Definately play the wind. That's been my experience here in MS--it seems our deer are born looking over their shoulder. Had folks that come from other states to this area comment on how tough they are to hunt. I've been caught more times than I care to count, even when I thought I was doing everything right! Blasted does are the worst--I think there should be a record book for them--been busted by a lot more does than bucks.
