Default More GOEX In The Mustang

My one try with GOEX in the Mustang a few weeks ago indicated real potential. But I only had five of the 300 grain Gold Dots for that initial test. Four of the five shots in that group were touching. So, I got some more GDs to try.

In my Saturday shooting session, I loaded up the Mustang with 120 grains FFFg, put some Gold Dots in crush rib sabots, and shot at the 100 yard target. Got a DARN NICE GROUP. This is about as good as it gets with the Mustang. Inever see those famous "one hole" groups with it (maybe my shooting) - but I think this will do.

I was so happy with that I decided to shoot another group. Oh well, sometimes `ya can - and sometimes `ya can't. [:-] I'm sure this wasn't the gun's fault.

Well, I had the chronograph out Sunday morning to clock a load with the Renegade, so I figured I may as see what this load was doing in the Mustang.

Got a five-shot average of 1641 fps. That's hauling pretty good for a 300 grain bullet with black powder. I wonder what 150 grains GOEX would do. One hundred grains of T7 gives me about 1825 fps with this bullet.

Not a great group with this target, but in keeping with the principle that you ought to show the bad as well as the good - here it is.

Shot another group with 120 grains and got about the same velocity and a little better group - but nothing like the first one. I don't know what I'm doing to get that lateral dispersion, but I'm sure it's my fault. Next time out, I'm gonna try 150 grains.

Hey guys - need a little feed back here. I know some of my posts get a little long and wordy. Do I need to keep them shorter?

I believe your barrel is heating up, with your sabot getting soft, therefore causing blow-by. I shot my new GM barrel with 80g of Goex, CR sabot and 300g Gold Dots (sound familiar?) and after 9 shots I was getting a lot of variation. I was on a LeadSled with open sights at 75 yards. Chap

No, Semi, your posts are just fine, I just don't think too many people are up at 12.30 in the morning

That is some good shooting with the Gold Dots..I think shooting at long distance is kinda like shooting a bow and arrow. Some days everything goes right and some days it takes a little thinking to figure out what happened. If all groups would be perfect that would get boring

That is some good shooting at 100 yards. None of those groups are all that bad. That first one on a cool barrel must have got your attention real fast. Maybe that barrel heating thing, or the change in temperature outside, or sweat in your eyes, shooter fatigue, ... perhaps I can come up with some more after a little nap.

Nice shooting.
