Default How much speed and ke should I lose

How much speed and KE should I lose at ranges of 50 yards and beyond with my setup? I shoot a 472 grain Axis 300 @ 288 fps which equals 87 ft lbs. Is this considered a mid weight or heavy arrow? I am pretty leary of trying to shoot thru my chrono at these ranges in fear of dead centering my graph.

Wow! I am impressed with that speed shooting that weight of arrow. Let me take a guess and say you are pulling around 80 pounds?

Yeh, I agreewith cougar. Those are pretty impressive numbers. Unfortunately numbers don't kill deer. Accuracy does. I'm trying to be nice here so don't take it the wrong way, but I would suggest to get real world numbers you go ahead and shoot through the chrono at 50 yards. I have done it myself. My point is, if you think you are reasonably accurate enough to start taking 50 yards shots at game then the chrono screen is surely big enough to represent the vital zone of a deer (assuming that's what your hunting). So if you lack the confidence to shoot through that V shape then surely that's too far to worry about how much speed and KE is available at that range.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't practice that far. Practicing at longer range does sharpen the skills to boost confidence at more normal distances. So I'd say go ahead and take a shot or two through the chrono. If you drill it then you should learn a little something from the experience.

BGFisher I agree with you completely. I'm talking for practice only. I have awesome groups at 60 yards but the chrono is actually my friends and I didnt want to risk hitting it. I know I could shoot thru it easily but my question was how speed and KE do you lose at those distances with a medium to heavy weight carbon going that fast. I personally dont shoot any animal past 40 yards
