Default Need some help with my back tension

Some of you might remember I switched to using the back tension method about a year ago. It's really improved my shooting but I still struggle with the movement on my draw arm during the final shot sequence. Some days I have it and when I do it's lights out. Other days I can't get it right and I spray left and right mainly the right as I'm a lefty and end up pulling left with the draw arm. I dug up some info while searching the archives of this sight and Rack-Attack had a forward on a clip from alansarchery.com and a piece stood out ................

Back and Round "“ The Critical Movement
A major requirement of true back-tension shooting with these releases is using the correct draw-arm movement during the final shot sequence, and most people find this the most difficult part of the whole process. The two main pitfalls are either trying to trigger the release by pulling it straight backwards or trying to trigger it by rotation alone. In the first case the release simply won"™t go, or at least, it won"™t go reliably (and there is a big difference between being reliable and being predictable). In the second case, the release will go, but you will never get the degree of left-right precision you need. As you will have guessed by now, the secret is to pull back and round simultaneously and the easiest way to make sure this happens is to start with a high elbow. Try it for yourself. If your elbow is level with, or below your arrow you can equally well draw straight back, or back-and-round. If your elbow is as high as it can comfortably go, only back-and-round is possible. If you are worried about the idea of a high elbow, watch Michelle Ragsdale, or Kirk Etheridge and you will see what I mean.

Alan Walker is the writer of that piece I think....I cut and pinched is all.

I found the reading today and haven't tried it yet. My questions are:

Is there any tips or coaching you could give that could help me out with this?

What do you think of the high elbow mentioned above and can you clarify the rotate he mentions?

Disclaimer: AlansArchery.com is what Rack Attack said the read came from..... the sight is no longer available but I found http://www.alansarchery.pwp.blueyond...eFrameOrig.htm and I'm assuming it's the same guy as they pretty much talk alike. Anyone looking for a good read check out the link but coach me first!

Default RE: Need some help with my back tension

Heeeeee's pretty much right! An easy way to get the high elbow is to turn you knuckles toward your face, probably touching your jaw or lower cheek with you knuckles while at full draw.....with your palm facing away from you. This will allow you to pull "back & round" as he states. Also remember to put some forward pressure on the bow with your "holding" arm. This will help put the pressure on your back muscles to hold/fire the bow while aiming. It's a push/pull deal altogether when it's working right. You should explode out of the shot, a total surprise, with complete concentration on the sight or target, not what your release hand is doing.
