Default How to stop the squeaking

How can you stop the squeaking noise when drawing back on a bow? I bought a used bow at the end of the season last year and have been sighting in the new glo pins for this season and keep hearing this squeaking noise.

cahillnnc,
The first thing to check is the cable slide. Clean off the cable guard with some alcohol. Replace the slide with a quality one like Sims teflon. Next, check the grip of the bow, and see if it is loose. Some screw on, others glue. I have heard of them squeeking if the bond was broken. If it still squeeks, I would take it to a proshop, and have him check it over. Probably has accumulated dirt on the axles, they can put it in a press and pull the axles, clean and replace. The will check the bushings and spacers as well. Shouldn't cost much, and the bow will shoot all the better for it. Good luck, and let us know what you find.

It could also be squeaking in the limb pockets or rockers. Give the limb pockets a squirt of teflon based lube (NOT OIL) around the limb butts and underneath the limbs where they go into the pockets. I also agree with TreBark. Since you don't know how the bow was maintained before you got it, a trip to the shop is definitely in order.

Arthur is right about the limb pockets. A good way to tell if it is indeed the pockets, is to draw the bow once...it squeaks. DON'T shoot, let down. Draw again, No squeak? it's the pockets.

You could try a recurve...

Hey Stealth_force, I tried what you said and it made no sound either time. I placed a arrow in it and tried and it squeaked like crazy when I pulled back. I think it is the part that the arrow rests on when you draw back. I am a new hunter and hunted last year with another bow that was lent to me, so I don't know much about what you call the parts, yet I can shoot pretty decently. It mounts on the right side and then the bow and sort of swings around the bow and has two reddish pink looking fingers that stick up to hold the arrow when you pull it back. Arrow rest I think is what its called. I am almost sure now that it is what is causing the squeak. Is there any thing to place on it to stop it or should I just replace it? Hey, you all were right about taking it to the local place though. No matter who had the bow before, you never know really how they treated it.
