Default How much arrow weight and Ke for rocket Hammerhead 4L

Man these things would make one heck of a hole. The Rocket hamerdhead 4L is a 4 blade expandable that weights 108grs. I just wondering what kind of arrow and ke setup it would take to make these babies penetrate through a whitetail deer that will be the only animal I hunt I have done some rough calulatiions it shot through my Allengiance when it gets here with around 375gr A/C/C arrow i get around 71lbs of ke.

I would say with a well tuned bow 71 ft/lbs would get the job done. I wouldn't want to drop much below that, maybe 65 ft/lbs minimum. Big heads need a lot more KE to push through a deer and into the vitals.

Ditto on 5shot's comments. I wouldn't go below 65 ft. lbs of KE and even then I would also think that a fair amount of momentum would also play a large part in the equation. I have shot the 4 blade Hammerhead through deer already and I was generating around the same level of KE that you are now.

A few years back there was a general consensus on this board that for moderate cutting diameter mechanicals there should be a minimum of 60 ft. lbs. of energy and for larger cut mechanicals 65 ft. lbs. would be the minimum. 5shot correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this was the results of your testing.
