Nubo, he bought one of those time machines that Art Bell was talking about on the radio. Hope he didn't end up going to Siberia

No really, he's about to discover how easy and fun it is to build your own string and cables

wwag, and others,
the cable length on my patriot is 35 3/8". i made a rookie mistake and took the cable off the bow, put it on the stringer and measured it and made a 35" cable, untwisted. i've done some more figurin. after twisting i lost 1/4 inch. if anyone needs a 34 3/4" cable made out of 452x let me know.
so HERE'S MY QUESTION: since i double the length to start that would be 70 3/4" (instead of the 70 i started with last night). i'm thinking i'm going to add 1/4" to account for the 12 twists i'll finish the cable off with. that would be a starting pt of 71". am i figurin this right? addin for the twists wasn't in the directions.

in other news: my wifey and i are going to be 8 hr smokin a brisket today, homemade rub, mop, and sauce. may even make burnt ends out of the fatty side. all hickory smoked. who cares how cold it is, i want some bar-b-q. any body in western nc and wants to come over for dinner let me know.

gibblet, here's what I do ( I use the yellowstone jig as well) :

- set the jig for exactly what you want.
- wrap on the strands and tie off with a square knot. When you wrap on get the tension on each strand as even as you can.
- grab the string in the middle and "wiggle" it a bit putting pressure as you push in a couple of directions, not much, but enough to move the string. This will help equalize the pressure on all strands.
- spin one end so you can get the string off, now add 1 twist for every 2 inches of string.
- put back onto the still "spun" end and crank it back around straight. this will take a good amount of force.

I have had to move the end post around 1/8 inch once in a while, but not usually.

If you got the two part jig wit the extension for longer strings, becarefull. First one I made when I put the string under tension, the extension actually lifted up in the air a small amount shortening the string.

you may appreciate this bob, my first cable attempt yesterday had 44 strands of 452x. i knew i wasn't doing something right, but couldn't remember what. i bet i'm not the first one to do this. my second attempt yesterday came out pretty good, but the single loop ended up being a bit long, not the cable, but the loop itself. i'm going to see if i can't get some shots on it tomorrow. i've got a micro stretcher coming so i can get sick tension.

so bob, you twist your cable before you serve either of the split loops? that's something i hadn't considered. i've got a long bar, like 108", but it is one solid piece of steel. ended up calling chris at bcy tech support yesterday for a few questions. he was very nice and took his time with me.
