Can someone tell me the difference between the 02 and 03 Patriot? Was the sand block pockets only used one year?

thanks.

Kraton,
Bowtech used the Sandtrap limb pockets on the 2002 and 2003 Patriot.......
The Extreme VFT for 2003 was the one that did not use that style limb pocket.

The major difference between the 02' and 03' Patriot revolved around the riser and balance. The 2002 bow was VERy top heavy with a goofy balance point. It had quite a bit of forward tumble bare bow. This was due in part to the upper riser but a lot in part to the location of the stabilizer insert which was well below the grip and outward on an forward riser section. Many guys who shot this bow used considerable backweight to get it to balance properly. It also used the old style "chubby" grip.
There are however some guys who would not part with this bow if you put a gun to their heads........

The 03" was IMO better balanced, and was the first model year to sport the start of the new generation of Bowtech grips, a straighter style low heel design.
The riser was more intricately machined as well.

I've seen pictures of an odd Patriot on another website.
It's definately a 2003 riser, but with no sand traps.
Either someone removed the sand traps (is that doable?),
or they put Patriot limbs on an extreme VFT riser and called it a Patriot.
I'd didn't let him in on it because he got it as a gift and seems plenty happy with it.
So can you remove sand traps??

Dave,

I'd like to see that bow... One of the 38 bows I had stolen last summer was indeed a 2003 Patriot Single Cam without sand trap pockets, so yes, it's doable if you have the right connections...

Kraton,

The easiest way to tell the model year is to see what cam the bow has on it. The 2002 will have either a DS or BT marked on the draw module before the number and the 2003 will have PAT marked on the cam and module too. Hope this helps.

Regards, Pat

The 03 Patriot DC did not have sandtrap limb pockets even though the single cam version did. I always wondered about that considering the fact that traditional single cams are always touted to be quieter with less recoil...right out of the box.
