Default Offset Vanes/Feathers on Crossbows

For those out there familiar with using crossbows...does it make sense to put a slight offset on crossbow bolts? I've heard some Excalibur users talking about it.

That came up in a discussion I had a few years back with one of the co-owners of Horton. He recommended not using straight fletch and going with 2 degrees of offset. I'd would recommend going with as much as possible without getting contact. Those things need all the help they can get in the accuracy department.

Cool thing about crossbows is that you can brace on a sandbag or in a gunvise to check for improvements while eliminating some of the "shooter error". Try some different things and tell us what works best for you.

What type of crossbow are you using now? Good luck this season!

Default RE: Offset Vanes/Feathers on Crossbows

ChiefHeadhunter, right now I'm using a Barnett RX-150, and that is why I have an Excalibur Exocet on lay-away at the pro-shop. I've heard a lot of good things about the Excalibur line, and I'm trying to get my bolts made up beforehand so I can be ready when the crossbow is paid off.

I'm about half-way there, so I'm stuck early season with the RX-150, 16 inch bolts that won't group very well. They're 2219 with 125gr Thunderheads.

I'm planning on going with 20" 2216 with 100gr Slick Trick broadheads for the Excocet.
