RE: Bow Target: Whats the best way to make your own?
Yeah I know what you mean.I did spend the money Its been holding up so far I just started shooting the other side.with my muzzy practice blades. four bales of straw under $5 bucks per bale its not as portable, I fasten mine together using ratchet tie down straps.I mainly use mine for a backstop for my 3-D deer I have them stacked four hight it stops my arrows but sometimes I have to push them through from the back ,If you stapped two together in front and two together right behind it I don't think pass throughs would be a problem. On Halloweem you could put some pumpkins on it and a scarcrow. So it does'nt look so shabby in your yard.
Im sorry I can.t help you make your own block all you would need is the sheets of foam some boards and some ratchet straps.

If you know of any place where you can get alot of cardboard , compressed cardboard works great. If you use straw bales , you can eliminate that pass thru problem by hanging a piece of berber carpeting behind the bale or anything you can think of that will not hurt your arrows.

RE: Bow Target: Whats the best way to make your own?
If you have the room, dig yourself a pit on a side hill and fill it with fine sand or very clean dirt. (no rocks) With very little maintainence it will last for ever.

OK, here is what I use and it's cheap:
- 2 landscaping timbers buried 2 ft in the ground 34" apart
- 4 2x4's cut at 36". Lag bolt 2 on bottom, 2 on top about 36" from bottom ones.
- Lay a piece of plywood cut at 34" x 16" on the bottom 2x4's
- stack carpet cut at 32" x 15" about 35" high
- add roof if desired and tie down carpet stack with parachute cord
(or use thread-all and tighten down)
I got the carpet from new houses going up in nearby subdivisions. Use your imagination

Go to your local home improvement store and buy a sheet of 4X8 Blueboard insulation. Cut into 2X2 squares or larger and layer them. It'll stop the fastest broadhead tipped arrow. Not too expensive.

The absolute best field point target is compressed old pillows into a carboard box. My bow with 65 lbs of ke will penetrate only a few inches, easy removal, and will last for years.
I have tried everything and this pillow target is by far the best!!
