Default Twisted Cable's

O.K. guy's my friend bought a new bow this fall it's a Champion Liberty duall cam ,He was having some fletching contact problem's ,so he took it to the shop and a new guy behind the counter put it in the press and started monkeying around with them ,since he is new to bowhunting he never thought much about it . Now his bow isn't shooting consistant ,and he has severel twist's on the top cable but only 3 or 4 twist's on the bottom, he doesn't feel the timing is an issue. One more thing his tiller on top is a quarter inch deeper than the bottom.
I need to help him with this but I'm really insure of what to do to help him out. Is this normal for the top to have more twist's ?
Will this problem be an issue ?Should these cable's have the same amount of twist's in them.

Can I take some twist's out of the top cable ,or do I need to add twist's to the bottom Cable?
Then what do i do if the cam's get out of timing ?or will they?

Default RE: Twisted Cable's

couple things here:

- its normal for equal length cables to have different numbers of twists. One cable runs inside the other, so it will need more twists than the outside cable.

- tillers need to be CLOSE to even, a quarter inch is off a good amount, but there are some reasons to do this, called tiller tuning, however it needs to be done by the shooter since it is to help steady the bow and will work different for different people.

Here's what I recommend:

- set the tillers even. dead even.
- twist/untwist the cables to get the cams synch'd and timed right, equal at rest and equal at full draw.
- twist the split yokes (if you have them) to get cam lean out.

You should now have an in time dual cam bow.

Now sure why the fletching contact needed cable work, but if you are contacting the cables, depending on the cable guide, you might be able to twist it to get more clearance, note you will then have to go back through the above steps again.

BOBH!

The cable gaurd had come loose ,this was found after the young guy screwed around with his cable's .When he got home he adjusted the cable gaurd himself because he think's that this bow technician put it that way or forgot to tighten it while monkeying around with it. He figure's he's got 12 twist's on the top and about 5 on the bottom .This sound's peculiar to me . This is why I've posted this here ,I haven't seen the bow yet ,I'm just going by what he told me at work.I want to correct this for him but first I want to get some other opinion's .
??Thank's for your solution ,I was looking at doing that to start . I'm just hoping not to upset the timing any more than it already is.Thank's again

to tell you the truth nubo, i might take the string and cables off and measure them and put them back at exact length by twisting/untwisting them, and then put them back on the bow, and start from there.

Here;s what to do. Set the cable guard to give fletching clearance. Then set the tiller even. This is simple with a two cammer. Then have your buddy draw the bow while you watch the cams roll over. They should both reach the stops at the same time. This is what you are trying to attain--cam synchronization. If they are out of whack then twist up the cable for the one that reaches the stops first. Or untwist the other one. It doesn't matter. Just getting the cams in sync is what is. And however many twists it takes is what it takes.

And it sounds like you got a rookie at the shop. Are you saying he hasn't bowhunted much? That doesn't mean anything. Personally I don't know many bowhunters I'd allow to work on my equipment. I'd rather have a very good target shooter do it--someone who klnows what they're doing. You have the right idea now. Do it yourself and you'll gain knowledge. I haven't had a bow in a shop in all the 30 years I've been shooting compounds.
