MZE & Arrow speed

Does the MZE reduce arrow speed ? has anyone ever crono'ed it vs other drop aways ?

I have never noticed any of my drop aways effecting the speed of the bow. If anything it might be 1 fps or something, might even make it a bit faster by the same amount. Technically it shouldn't change anything. The only rests I know of that would effect speed would be the whisker type rests, and even that can be minimized with some trimming.

I doubt a chrono would be accurate enough to measure the gain or loss from from switching to a drop away rest. Unless one of your set ups was wrong.

I'm looking for rests fo 2 new bows right now and I think I am going with the MZE . It just had me wondering because with the rope style fall aways most of them get pulled up by the cabels and a spring drops the rest . But with the MZE they force the rest to drop the rest which I see as a plus for reliability but it judt seems like it would take some energy away .

I picked up 3 FPS when I switched to the MZE 3 years ago from a 2 prong rest. I'm not sure the reason why the increase, but I did have an increase.

less friction aginst the arrow shaft will speed the arrow up
Lift cords to the buss cables does not effect bows energy only added weight to the string will cause a reduction in speed.

rmw, you're absolutely right about the reliability. No cord to slip or break. No springs to do likewise. I mounted a MZE on my Pearson last year and feel it's about as reliable as they get. Consider, this thing has been around for over ten years. I know the guy that invented it and when. He just had to get someone to mass produce and market it.

As for speed. Darn, I never thought to chrono the before and after effects. But thinking that it isn't connected to the string I'd think speed loss or gain would be minimal. About the only thing I altered on the thing was the hook. I chopped about an inch of it off. Just didn't need all that extra sticking up to catch brush or whatever. A little moleskin on the hook and it's silent as a mouse, too.

I put thousands of shots through a bow each year, and this thing hasn't failed for even one shot. More than I can say for the other 8 drop-aways I've had on my bows.
I did have a guy come into the store one day with a Shaky Hunter that wouldn't work. Seems he dropped his bow and bent the bolt that the launcher pivots on. I played around for about fifteen minutes, got it strightened out and it worked fine after that. But just something I thought I'd bring up. People like the rest, but I guess something like that can happen once in a while.

If I remember right I think I got a small increase also. Been awhile cause I put them on about 3 or 4 years ago and have never looked back. The rest has never failed in any way in all those seasons.

I have had a Muzzy on my last 3 bows with great results. I believe it is the best drop away out there. I have noticed a slight increase in speed over the prong rests that I was using.

I've never chrony's it but I'll go with the MZE hand's down.If you follow the instructional video when installing it ,it'll be a breeze . There's no contact on the rest ,your arrow lay's on the hook till you release it ,so there's nothing to slow your arrow down .I'm sure your gonna gain a tad more speed .It's a great rest and I'm sure you'll agree later .
