Default straightness of Gold Tip XT Pro arrows?

This is their premium arrows that they advertise as straight to +/- 0.001 and weights within 1 grain per dozen.

Has anyone actually measured the straightness of these arrows? I am interested in getting some but hesitate since their XT hunters are rarely within the +/- 0.003 tolerances they advertise. If I pay top dollar for arrows, I want to get what is advertised.

All of your XT's? Have you actually measured them? If you have and they are within tolerance, I am amazed. Are you maybe talking about the Gold Tip Pros like is in your signature? You have measured those and they are all within 0.001? That would be good news for me. I would like to switch back to GT.

Straightarrow has a post currently on the second page of this forum (http://forum.hunting.net/asppg/tm.asp?m=776787) where he measured a dozen 7595 XT Hunters and only found 3 out of the dozen to be within the advertised +/- 0.003; another 3 that were within 0.008 and 5 that were within 0.015. One was off by 0.026!

Straightarrow's experience fits with my own and at least two pro shop owners I know. Gold Tip seems to have a quality control problem.

If I buy a dozen arrows, I expect more than 3 of them to be as advertised.

I don't know how straight my pro's actually are ! But almost all of them spun true and are grouping real good. And with RM Ti-100's they are stacking right with my field points at all ranges and hitting dead on in the field !

I've been real impressed with them so far !

I am speaking of the Gold Tip Pro's.

And yes I have tested and weighed them!

Excellent news. I will pick up a dozen in a month or two when I get my fall away rest. I wish I didn't have to resort to buying their top of the line. +/- 0.003 would be just fine but their quality control for the XT Hunters really sucks. Anyway, thanks for the input.

I get my Goldtips from Morava Archery out of Rushvile, NE. Tom weighs and sorts the Goldtips and then includes a little sheet when he sends them out to indicate the weight. Then when I need to order more I'll let him know the weight of the last ones and he usually can send me some within a grain or so of the others. The other thing and he hasn't had to do this often but he'll cut them in such a way as to get them as straight as possible. He also makes them up with the goldtip g-nock adaptor and the g nocks and that makes for a real nice finished arrow. If you have someone like Tom making up your arrows I think you can have complete confidence in the Goldtips, they are a real durable shaft.

hornbow,

My test was for spine, not straightness. The hunters are advertised to be within .006. I don't know if they are.

My bad. I went back and re-read your post. You're talking about 3 arrows being within 0.003 etc. made me think you were talking about straightness but you were saying they were within 0.003 of the 0.34 deflection in spine. Thanks for clearing that up.

The Gold Tip Hunters (now called Expedition hunters) are supposed to be +/- 0.006. The Gold Tip XT (now called XT Hunters) are billed as +/- 0.003. Two proshop owners I know have measured their straightness and found them to rarely be within specs. I shot Gold Tip XT's for years and know that some of my arrows wouldn't spin well or fly well. A couple even looked bent to the naked eye; certainly not within 0.003. That is why I switched arrows to Carbon Express this year. They are straighter but also more fragile; brittle maybe. I have already broken 3 in less than a month. I broke one gold tip in 5 or 6 years. I would like to switch back to GT but I like the straightness of the CE so I am considering the GT pros. That is why I inquired about whether or not they are REALLY what GT says they are.
