It could be the string crept. A poorly made string will move even when just sitting in a box. I've seen them creep an inch in a year, just sitting around. A quality string is very important. I would recommend getting a custom made string. There are many string-builders who can make you a very high quality string.

There are many potential problems with a poor string. It can affect not only the draw weight, but your draw length, and most importantly the bow's tune. There's almost no chance of the average hunter shooting good long-term with a low quality string.

Being a little new to this, I've always had the generic string put on at the generic archery shop. I am familiar with the prices of these, but how much does a good quality custom string cost? Just looking for ballpark figures here as I'm not going to change this close to hunting season.

Thanks!

String prices vary with the type of bow (single cam strings are twice as long as most dual cam strings). String and cables will usually run anywhere from about $45 to $80, depending on exactly what you need and the particular string maker's fees. I know of a shop that makes great custom strings and they're right in the $55 range for string and cable.

Thanks! I think it's time to start looking for a better bow shop. The closest one to me doesn't carry custom strings, set up my rest wrong, sold me the wrong spline arrows and other misc. issues.

Not sure if this bow is worth the investment or not. It's a middle of the road single cam that I might upgrade in the near future, and while I can take rests and arrows with me to my new bow, the string kinda has to stay... Plus the one on there shows very little wear.

The bow is fine, and the least important component for success in my opinion. The arrows are very important and so is the string. There are lots of good on-line string builders, if you can't find a local one.
