Does everybody glue their own vanes on. Seem every time I shoot lately I'm cutting mine off. Tired of running to the shop to have them fixed. So what do I need? I would imagine a good jig, some of the right glue, what else? How much am I looking at spending? I see I could save some $$ in the future just buying new shafts. I wiill definately be at the store tommorow shopping. Any advice on what to get would help.
Without spending a fortune you can get great satisfaction from doing your own work with either a Grayling jig or a Bohning jig. They both work just as good as a Bitzenburger for half the price. The type of clamp to get is up to you. You can get right wing/left wing/straight clamps , it's personal preference. Just get some fletch Tite and some fastset glue , some denatured alchohol , sand paper , and your good to go.
Oh yeah , you might want to get some fletching also.

I'll have to respectfully disagree on that. I had the Grayling and while it is inexpensive, there was play in the nock indexer(?). The result was less than perfect spacing between the feathers. I gave it away to someone ont his board.
Now the Bohning I can't comment on since I've never used that, but the Bitz, while expensive, is easy to get very consistent results with. Alot of pro shops use a turntable full of Bitz's for that reason.

Thats very possible , I haven't experienced it but it sounds feasible. Did you tighten the screw with lock-tite? I put 3 marks on my Bohning to make sure it's rotating to the exact spot every time. The quality of my Bitz is definately better (steel -vs- plastic) but the end result is the same.
Just trying to point out that you dont have to spend a fortune to get started in doing your own fletching.
I have the Arizona E-Z Fletch with a few degrees right offset that does a fine job for me.I do carbons with the aluminum and have had no problems at all.Ron
Thanks guys. I Did go and look at a grayling today. Not to impressed at the quality of it but I guess they are trieng to make everything out of plastic today. I guess I will have to do some shopping around. They wanted $30 for the jig with a clamp. About how much is the Bitz? I would like to do my own work for years to come. I don't wan't to buy one I won't be happy with.
the greyling is the plastic version of the Bitz both made by the same company.
the Greyling is targeted for the doityourselfer who is not out to spend a lot of money for a fletching jig and works fine if you are not planning on going into the archery business but is not nearly the quality Jig that the bitz is
IMO no jig holds a candle to the bitz.
